Max (Maxine White)
I grew up in a large, close-knit Catholic family in the land locked state of Utah. There were lots of outdoor activities of camping and exploring the mountains but only a limited amount of water sports were available to me. After graduating with a business degree from Westminster College in Salt Lake City, a girl friend and I made an impulsive decision to move to San Francisco. We had no jobs, very little money saved and knew only a handful of people there but, at the age of 25, that’s how you do things.
Three years later I met this crazy Australian at a party. My first date with Whitey was my first time sailing. Soon I was giving up my job in the financial district for a sailing adventure-filled life with him.
Our travels have taken us down the Pacific Coast of California, Mexico and Central America, then transiting the Panama Canal and throughout the Caribbean. We also took a 76 foot catamaran across the Atlantic from the BVI’s to Portugal.
When we landed in the British Virgin Islands for our wedding in February 1992, we had to stop. Landing jobs with ‘The Moorings’ as Captain and Chef on a charter boat set us on a career path of boats that we hadn’t even envisioned. Along with this new lifestyle, my skills and passion for cooking have evolved to a level that has earned me major awards at International Boat Shows.
In addition to sailing we are passionate about scuba diving, exploring other cultures and continuing to learn while always keeping the adventure alive.
